COOK ISLANDS

If you’ve ever fantasized about escaping to a remote desert island, far from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, then look no further than the Cook Islands.

The main Island Rarotonga, is a picture-perfect outpost of lush mountain peaks and fringing coral reefs. This is one of the most beautiful and accessible islands in the Pacific.

Aitutaki is the next best-known island, and is regularly listed as one of the most romantic places on Earth. Your 6 hour direct flight which operates only on a Saturday and return’s only on a Friday, makes the Cook Island’s and ideal destination for a week to just get away from it all.

The Islanders are a laidback friendly bunch, never in a hurry, offering a smile at every opportunity and the local food is delicious too accompanied by some great New Zealand wines. We had so much fun on our holiday there in March 2012.

Hiring mopeds for the week gave us the freedom we wanted to just ride around, popping into secluded beaches, drinking coconut milkshakes from the house next door, finding little rainforest hikes and tucked away food houses.

The “Raro” people were very easygoing, no competition, no-one trying to sell you fake items on the beaches…

The food was great, the water was crystal clear with fish swimming right outside your bungalow, temperature perfect, not too hot and there was even a great cross island hike for me to do!
