More Information

This 7 day North Island Getaway self-drive itinerary covers the best bits, holiday essentials, and a few local surprises. Includes a spectacular Auckland Harbour cruise in the City of Sails before treating your eyes to rolling hills and lush green valleys, as the Waikato region gives you a taste of life outside cosmopolitan New Zealand. Satisfy your stomach rumblings in Hamilton, grabbing a tasty bite before checking in for your next adventure. Stretch out the drive and get ready for a magical tour, as the Waitomo Caves open your curious soul to wonder, history and glittering worms, clinging to an unseen ceiling.

Spend the day exploring the region, with plans and activities to suit all interests, before settling in for an evening of mouth-watering delights. Te Puia hosts the ever-popular Te Po Experience, combining cultural exposure with engaging entertainment. You’ll be welcomed by a traditional powhiri before the feast, setting the tone for the night's events, including authentic Maori cuisine that can only be described as delicious, and an entrancing concert performance packed with traditional stories and songs. After dinner, you’ll be invited to board a people mover for an eye-popping journey through the geothermal valley, radiant in the evening light.

Put Rotorua in your rear-view and continue your journey south to Wellington, making a few pit-stops along the way. It would be a shame to miss anything.

In Wellington, the Capitao City, swap outside curiosities for inside information, as Te Papa educates, entertains, and tickles historical fancies faster than any cable channel. A 60-minute tour will take you into the interior of this evolving museum, broadening your understanding of how Maori/colonial relations and art relate. Displays and exhibitions document traditions, interpretations, expression, Pacific cultures, and natural history. Ride the Cable Car and enjoy the gardens and Wellington's waterfront.
