Memoirs of Italy Road Trip Part 3

Part 3 from Lake Garda through Verona (we didn’t see Juliet as she was out with Romeo at the time) and on to Venice.

Getting There:

From the Lake it was a 2 Hr drive to Marco Polo Airport in Venice, where we returned our rental car, having completed around 1000 Km’s and one tank of Diesel with 4 Adults and 2 large and 2 small suitcases plus hand luggage we left smiling at the power (Turbo Diesel) comfort and economy of the Peugeot 508 Wagon. We transferred by water Taxi to Murano Island for our stay in Venice.

Murano Island in the Venetian lagoon

Murano these series of Islands are famous for glassmaking, the Foundries were forced to move away from Venice itself in 1291 due to the risk of fires, in the city’s wooden buildings.

The island is only around 1.5 KM across in size and also the same distance from Venice with ferries, running regularly. Attractions on the island include the Church of Santa Maria e San Donato (known for its twelfth century Byzantine mosaic pavement).

Our Hotel:

We stayed at the Murano Palace, don’t let the name fool you into a Place of Grandeur it is not, however it is clean comfortable with brekkie. The plus it’s not costly and out of the hustle & bustle of Venice with beautiful Jewellery stores (No Made in China’s here) and the Owner’s Son owns a restaurant nearby OMG!! The negative is it has no lift..

Venice - can also be reached by Train travel to Venice St Lucia Station, and from here on is by either private water taxi or by passenger ferry which run regularly. Just a few what to Do’s: Walking Tours, Visit St. Marco’s Basilica, Trip in a Gondola, Murano Island, Bridge of Sighs at Doge's Palace, La Fenice Theatre.

I Love Italy and always have, I am married to an Italian and touring this beauty with the most important men in my life has ticked all the boxes for a perfect holiday!
