Memoirs of Italy Road Trip Part 2

Part 2 of our Northern Italy trip, took us from Monterosso to Bellagio (Lake Como) on to Sirmione (Lake Garda)

Getting There:

Our first stop for a few days was Bellagio Lake Como which by car took us 4 hours; you can also get there in 90 minutes by Private Transfer from Milan Airport or by local Trains & Ferries.

Our Hotel:

We stayed at the Hotel Bellagio, in Bellagio with amazing views of Lake Como (room 402 top floor) everyone of the sampled local ‘Ristorante’s’ tucked along the cobbled stepped alleys that lead up from the lake towards the main shopping streets was a true delight of Italian Cuisine.

The beauty of Lake Como is best appreciated from the water and a variety of boats and hydrofoils run regularly between Bellagio and Como and all the other pretty lakeside towns in between. On the way you can admire gorgeous villas of the rich and famous perhaps George Clooney maybe home! Admire the grandeur, of Villa d'Este - Hailed as one of the best hotels in the world, widely praised for its impeccable décor and extraordinary hospitality.

All Aboard:

Moving East we decided to take the Car Ferry to Varenna, this was a much better drive (Dual Carriageway) than the winding road on the way into Bellagio from the West Side. Sirmione on Lake Garda (a place my Hubby used to Holiday as a child) was our next destination 2.5 hrs drive.

Our Hotel:

The 4 Star Hotel Eden is right on the lakeshore and 100 metres from Sirmione Castle. The service was excellent and the rooms were modern with a fresh contemporary design and include a mini bar. Most feature a balcony with lake view free Wi-Fi and LCD TVs with optional pay-per-view channels. Breakfast is buffet style and drinks are available from the bar throughout the day.

What to Do:

Rocca Scaligera: An authentic Castle Fortress to explore. We were rewarded with terrific views of Lago di Garda

Grotte di Catullo: it is a Roman ruin and small museum, holds quite a good collection of artefacts from the villa itself and nearby excavations.
