I started my travel career in Papua New Guinea straight out of secondary high school in Canberra over 36 years ago. My first familiarization trip was a weekend of white water rafting in the highlands of PNG, followed by a 5-day trip to Australia visiting Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart, all within the first 12 months of my travel career.

I became a qualified Senior International Travel Consultant within the first three years of employment. I worked with reputable retail travel agents in Port Moresby and Lae, PNG and was offered numerous familiarization trips as rewards for my highest level of customer service and sales performance. The familiarization trips over that period included a cruise with P&O on the Oriana from Rabaul to Sydney, a visit to London, the Philippines, Singapore, New Zealand and Fiji.

I migrated to Queensland in 1989 and shortly after, became Manager of a family owned retail travel agent in Bundaberg, Queensland who specialized in coach and group tours around the country and needed the expertise in international travel. After three years of my successful employment, I moved back to PNG with my family. As much as I loved my travel job, I took a change of career as travel jobs were limited where I was based in the New Guinea Islands.

In early 2010, I accepted the position as Travel Manager of Travel Services, the largest retail travel agent in Papua New Guinea, located in Port Moresby. A lot had changed in the industry since I was last in travel in the early 90's. Reservations systems became more sophisticated and sharing data between that system and accounting systems certainly meant a much faster work environment. It didn't take long to settle into the role thanks to my fares and ticketing qualification and understanding of the internet and my general knowledge of working in a retail travel agent. I worked with high volumes of corporate travel for some of the biggest corporate companies in Papua New Guinea.

I also mentored upcoming national travel consultants and shared ideas with other colleagues and the Directors of the company. This was a very demanding role but I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

I have been fortunate in commuting between PNG and Australia on a monthly basis and have travelled once a year to the UK with my husband to spend time with family and have had short side trips to other parts of the UK and Europe.

Over the past 36 years, in addition to the places I visited on familiarization trips with work, I have also had the privilege to visit Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Malaysia, Bali, Hong Kong, Colombia, Los Angeles, Miami, UK, Scotland, South Ireland, North Wales, Belgium, France and Italy and have transited numerous times through Dubai on holiday.

I recently resigned from Travel Services and have moved back to Brisbane for a change of lifestyle and of course to be closer to my grandson. After 18 and a half years of travel industry experience, I still have the travel bug so have recently joined MTA - Mobile Travel Agents, an exclusive and reputable mobile travel group in Australia and am proud to say that I am one of 370 odd hand-picked qualified international travel consultants around Australia.
