Singapore

22 June 2013 - I travelled to Singapore on my own as I had not done this for many years and it is quite a different experience... freedom to make ALL the decisions - where/what to eat and do and for how long!  Wonderful!

My lucky upgrade to Qantas business class got me off to a great start. Being able to lie completely flat on a flight is quite amazing when done for the first time. Normally my 1.78m frame is very relieved to unravel at the destination but I arrived in Singapore refreshed and ready to explore.

There is no shortage of things to do and see in Singapore. Some “must sees” are the Merlion Statue, Singapore Zoo Night Safari and Breakfast with the Orangutans, Gardens by the Bay, Chinatown and Sentosa Island.

I did several short tours as this was an easy way to get to many places of interest. My absolute favourite included a nice meal in good company in Chinatown, a bit of shopping at the night markets, a mildly terrifying but fun trishaw ride to Clarke Quay and a bumboat ride down the Singapore River. Highly recommended!

Singapore is a place of beautiful gardens, huge shopping malls that also connect many of the MRT train stations, amazing modern architecture alongside more traditional Chinese, Indian and British Colonial architecture and a diverse range of eateries and restaurants all in a very safe, clean and friendly city.
