Cook Islands

I have just returned from a wonderful week in the Cook Islands. This destination is such a hidden gem and is now more accessible than ever with a direct Air New Zealand flight option from Sydney to Raratonga.

Never have I seen the water to be as crystal clear or the most beautiful shade of blue anywhere in my travels. You are spoilt with an array of resturants to dine at, be it casual by the beach or for that special occassion, Raratonga caters for it all.

The activities are endless, from strolling throught the local markets on a Saturday morning to snorkeling the many reefs, or quad biking through the rainforest to the 4wd Safari Tour.  The Sunday local church service is not to be missed nor is the cultural dance show that is performed at a number of  local resorts. There is plenty to keep everybody happy.

Not to be missed is a trip out to the coral atoll of Aitutaki, with a day cruise on the lagoon, where you will get to snorkel the many reefs. Lunch is included on the deserted One Foot Island and you may be lucky enough to swim with the turtles.  Aitutaki has been voted the most beautiful lagoon in the world - a photographers paradise.

You are also spoilt with the choice of accommodation, in both Raratonga and Aitutaki from resort style to private villas on the beach or facing the mountains, the options are endless.

The Cook Islanders are among the most gentle of people, who can never do enough for you, and always with a smile.

If you are after a relaxing hassle free holiday, make the Cook Islands your next destination.
