Myanmar (Burma) Travel - April 2013

Burma of the past, captivated the interest of literary giants George Orwell, Somerset Maugham and Rudyard Kipling. The "Burma of today" or Myanmar (as it is now known) - is certainly captivating the interest of modern travellers, & I for one certainly can't wait to return.

After 20 years of travelling to many parts of Asia - Burma had eluded me. Like many other travellers I had chosen to avoid travel to Burma - but as the country opened its doors to tourism, I decided it was time.

Visiting in April 2013 with my sister - we found interesting sights, great food and endearing people including the vibrant hilltribe people from Shan state.

Things are fast changing in Myanmar - whilst guidebooks may say there are no ATMs - these are now becoming available in major cities. Myanmar may have had little exposure to tourism in recent years - however after many years of travelling, I found the private tour guides we had in Bagan and Inle Lake were amongst the best I have experienced anywhere - friendly, knowledgable and extremely passionate about their people and destination.

Myanmar is a photographers paradise - my sister & I took countless beautiful photographs.

If you have enjoyed Vietnam, Cambodia or Thailand before - why not let me plan an interesting itinerary for you to Myanmar.
