Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon

The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon's most famous structure.

Burma is predominantly a Buddhist country.

Both locals and foreign visitors must remove footwear when entering the pagoda. The tiles do get quite hot during the heat of the day, so tourists can be seen literally jumping from shadow to shadow, as it is quite hot underfoot!

Our local guide walked around the structure once with us - explaining the history and pointing out areas of importance.

We then walked around on our own - as the sun started to set - the pagoda become a very social place. The normally reserved Burmese people seemed happy to come and chat with us once we were on our own.

Watching the sunset over the glittering Shwedagon Pagoda is a must do experience in Myanmar.
