Holiday in Myanmar - Mandalay

In Mandalay, we stayed at The Hotel by the Red Canal - a lovely little boutique hotel, with very attentive staff, great food  and cocktail hour by the pool each night. We visited many temples in Mandalay, went up Mandalay Hill for great views over town.

In Bagan, we had experienced the monks collecting alms - in Mandalay we were privileged to visit the temple or pagoda where hundreds of nuns reside. The nuns in Burma all wear pink and have shaved heads - we got to hear some beautiful chanting before watching all the nuns assemble for their main meal of the day - again a beautiful experience and just us and our guide.

On our second day in Mandalay, we explored the nearby former capitals of Ava, Sagaing and Amarapura. We then continued to U Bein bridge, this 200 year old teak bridge is one of the most photographed sites in Myanmar .

We had a wonderful time in Myanmar - it is now very much a destination in the tourist's spotlight - so in peak season it is very important to book well in advance. I can't wait to return - i would love to explore some of the smaller towns, the beach areas or do a short trek.

MTA utilises some great local operators in Myanmar - who have some wonderful itineraries and special inclusions - so I would love to plan you Myanmar trip for you.
