Portofino, La Mia Liguria

Portofino is a charming little sea village on the Italian Mediterranean built around a bay, with tall colourful houses typical of the Italian Riviera.

We arrived by ship's tender and you can reach it by sea on the boats that frequently set out from the sea promenade at Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure, or from Camogli and Genoa.

Walk through the village and among the boutiques selling famous brands or simply settle into one of the lovely restaurants that surround the bay. We ventured up the gentle slope to a quiet cafe and enjoyed a lovely glass of local wine!

Having just done a full day touring it was lovely to relax here and when I next return I will be opting for a lazy day exploring Portofino.

There is a climb to the Brown CastleĀ from the famous little square on foot, with a park immersed in greenery, up to the lighthouse. From there the view of Portofino bay is reputed to be unforgettable. The whole territory is part of the Portofino Regional Nature Park.

Also of interest is the museum behind the Portofino Marina, which has sculptures by world-famous contemporary artists.

So much to see in such a little village...a stay there would be very pleasant as well!
