Northern Territory JUN2014

Have recently returned from an amazing 3 week holiday to the NT.

We spent 6 nights in Darwin attending a dance convention and enjoyed the wave pool, Crocosaurus Cove and the beautiful sunset over Mindil Beach.

From there we hired a motorhome through Maui and started our journey south. Litchfield NP was our first stop for 2 nights. On the way we stopped at Berry Springs which I think is one of my favourite places in the top end! The water was beautiful and scenery gorgeous. We spent a whole day exploring Litchfield with its range of waterholes and waterfalls. Just stunning!!

From Litchfield to Katherine where we visited the Katherine Hot Springs and did the morning cruise tour of Katherine Gorge......another one of my favourite places in the NT!

Heading from Katherine to Alice Springs we stopped for a night at the legendary Daly Waters Pub. You could spend all night in the pub and still not take in all of the foreign currency notes, badges, messages, signs and undies that cover the walls!! Next was the Devils Marbles and a couple of outback roadhouses along the way. Not forgetting to mention the road trains we shared the road with!

Alice Springs is a great town with a nice view from the top of Anazc Hill. The Gap (break inbetween the West and East MacDonnell ranges never ceases to amaze me. We were here for Territory Day which is the one day that you can purchase and let off firecrackers......took me back to my younger days and the goold ole cracker nights. The first day we put on our adventure hats and did a quad bike tour out on a cattle station. What an amazing way to experience the outback. In the afternoon we visited iconic information centres for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air.  A day trip from here out to Simpson's Gap and Standley Chasm was unreal. We hit Standly Chasm at just the right time and the light on the walls was out of this world!!!!

Next stop on the itinerary was Kings Canyon. Last trip we only spent 1 night here and so this time we spend 2 nights to allow us more time to explore. The resort has a great feel and caters for all grades of accommodation. A wine whilst watching the sunset was a great way to spend the first night and then the next day did the 3 hr rim walk and the valley walk. The views from the top are great and the freedom you feel up there is wonderful.

Last of our stops was Uluru. 3 nights here allowed us to explore the rock - some of us from the base whilst others climbed to the top. We rode camels to watch the sunrise, drove out to watch the sunset, explored Kata Tjuta (The Olga's) and some of us enjoyed the view from the air in a helicopter.

There is no feeling like driving through the outback and I would recommend this journey to everyone!!
