Weekend in Hobart

This past weekend we had the chance to surprise a family member for their birthday in Tassie. What an amazing time we had travelling and staying with family - a total of 16 of us! We flew Jetstar down and back and I must say that we left on time in both directions and actually landed early on the way home due to tail winds. Not huge room in the seats but no different to any other domestic flight these days.

While we were down there we did a day trip to Port Arthur. Although I had driven around the area before I had not been into the actual historic site - I must say I was impressed! It was a lot bigger than I thought and really interesting. We spent a couple of hours there but I wish we had have spent a whole day there. I would recommend for you to spend a night out in the area so you can stop at places like Eaglehawk Neck, the Tessellated Pavement, and Tasman Arch just to name a few icons on the way to Port Arthur. If you purchase a ticket to the historic site it is valid for 2 days so you can take your time and spend time exploring the buildings and doing a cruise to the Isle of the Dead. The ghost tours are also very popular but I'm not sure I would have the nerves to do it!

The next day we went down to Salamanca and enjoyed coffee and some shopping at the markets. Salamanca is probably my favourite markets in Australia, the location and atmosphere is just great. You want to get there before 8 in the morning and I can help you out with the best place to park - I got the best kept secrets from the locals! We also drove to Richmond just to go to the lolly shop - always a must visit when going to Hobart!
