Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets

Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets

Opened in February this year, Hotel Indigo still had that ‘new hotel’ smell about it when we stayed here in May.

With funky fittings from top to toe the colour scheme for the public spaces is reminiscent of a 1950’s Miami diner – think primary colour palette with some pastels thrown in for balance. The feel and look are kept modern with the use of brass and chrome fixtures along with the industrial poured concrete reception desk and polished concrete floors.

Check-in was seamless with helpful staff eager to get the necessary paperwork done and have us in our rooms as quickly as possible.

We stayed in a king room on the 9th floor, which gave us good views across Gouger Street to the Central Markets and west to the city’s coastline.

Each room in the Indigo is individually decorated with a wall mural in a style based on a poster from past Adelaide Festivals. Everything else in the room felt fresh and luxurious, with plush fabrics used to elevate the gorgeousness to the next level. They even had a throne ready for me to relax in as I took in the views from the room-wide floor to ceiling windows. (OK, it was a chaise lounge, and they are in all rooms, but a girl can dream…) The bathroom was well equipped with plenty of counter space and had a choice of a rain shower and handheld shower for those who like to mix things up a bit.

Merrymaker roof-top bar is an ideal place to while away a few hours looking out over the city over a drink or three. The drinks list is extensive and is accompanied by a menu of nibbles that showcase the local produce from the markets across the road. We had perfect weather for our stay, but the open rooftop can be converted to an enclosed area for when the weather is not as user friendly.

Breakfast is always a highlight of any hotel stay, for me anyway, and we were not disappointed this time. Coffees were hot and strong, just what we needed after a session upstairs the previous evening, accompanied by Danishes, yoghurt and a shot glass containing a juice that we were assured contained all the vitamins they must have felt we needed to replace. (How did they know? Very intuitive staff.)    One full breakfast was ordered, consisting of everything you could want on your plate in the morning to keep you going all day. I got to try something new, something I have never seen on a hotel breakfast menu until here – a croque monsieur. I can confidently say it was the best ham and cheese toasty that I have ever tasted!

Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets is definitely worth a visit, no matter if you are popping in for a bevvie and food or are staying overnight or longer. Highly recommend!
