TRAVEL TIPS

A few tips that may help….

  • PASSPORT & VISA REQUIREMENTS. Make sure your passport has at least six months' validity from your planned date of return to Australia. Make copies of your passport, visas, insurance policy and credit card numbers. Carry one copy with you in a separate place to the originals and leave a copy with someone back home. Carry extra passport photos in case your passport is lost or stolen and you need to reissued whilst you're away.
  • TRAVEL INSURANCE. Take out comprehensive travel insurance - please don’t travel without it. Make sure if covers the destination you plan on to visit and the activities you plan to do. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TRAVEL INSURANCE, YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO TRAVEL !!
  • CREDIT CARDS AND BANK ACCOUNTS. Make sure you notify your bank you are travelling overseas, it can become inconvenient if your accounts/cards are blocked and very time consuming and difficult trying to get in contact with the bank from overseas. Internet banking may also be locked if you have logged in from overseas. It’s a good idea to write down your banks Card Customer Service overseas phone number which is located on the back of your credit/eftpos cards. Again it is very difficult to obtain these numbers from overseas.  I always recommend and personally travel with prepaid Currency cards. You will always have a secondary back up card and can easily access online banking to top up your travel funds.
  • LANGUAGE. If you really want to impress the locals, learn a few words in the local lingo.  A few good ones to know are hello, goodbye, good morning, good evening, thank you, please and my favourite, how much (is that pair of shoes or handbag !!) ?? A few words go a long way, and locals will welcome you with open arms!
  • VACCINATIONS. Speak with your Dr for information on requirements & recommended vaccinations and other health precautions. Remember that vaccinations can be an entry requirement for some countries. Eg Yellow Fever for Africa.  Also find out about taking medication overseas, some medications are not allowed in certain countries. Check out this helpful link www.tmvc.com.au
