Holiday to Singapore

In August this year my Husband and I had the opportunity to spend a few days in Singapore. I had not been to Singapore for 9 years and wow has it changed for the better. The old buildings have been done up and there are a lot of attractions to see and of course the shopping is fabulous.

We flew with Singapore Airlines and they were fantastic. The service was great and even the food was very good. I can highly recommend them to anyone as a great airline to fly.All the other times I have been to Singapore I have stayed in the Orchard Road area of Singapore but this time we stayed near Boat Quay at the beautiful Fullerton Hotel. She was the original General Post Office build in 1928 by the British and now has been converted into a 5 star hotel. Our stay was amazing and the history, service plus being located at Boat Quay made our stay very enjoyable. Boat Quay is only a few minute walk from the hotel and has a large range of reasonable priced bars and restaurants all with outdoor seating right on the river’s edge. A great place to have an afternoon drink and watch the small boats go by.

During our few days in Singapore we had dinner one night at China Town and the food was fantastic, it was very friendly and the prices really reasonable. One of the must do’s in Singapore is the Gardens by the Bay. These were amazing. They are large domes, one with gardens of the world and the other with a tropical garden complete with a massive waterfall. Outside the domes are other gardens to wander through. They always have different exhibitions on and when we were there it was orchards of China and they were so beautiful.

The other must do is the Zoo and the Night Safari. Both were fantastic. The zoo is not very large but large enough to spend ½ a day there with a great display of Asian animals including monkeys and Orangutans. The night Safari was a lot of fun. You board a jeep style train and they take you around the zoo pointing out the animals at night as some are only active at night. You can just go for the tour or you can have dinner at the one of the Restaurants before the tour begins.

We thoroughly enjoyed a few days in Singapore and well worth a stop on your way to Europe or even for a short holiday.
