The moment I opened up my eyes to what the world had to offer was when I was 9 years old and one of the Australian Newspapers released a monthly issue of Wally's World. Basically, it was a Where's Wally book which you could collect 1 issue per month and each issue would focus on a different destination around the world. Please tell me you remember these? So vividly I loved the first issue being Ancient Egypt and to this day still can recall how they explained the ‘mummification process'. Being a little girl who had only known growing up on my dad's yacht and in a little beach town, discovering this was the ultimate journey. I soon began to realise that the world was so much bigger than my own backyard.
Since then, I have studied my Diploma in Tourism Operations Management at TAFE and for my first job interview after my studies I was asked where my favourite destination was my answer? Brunswick Heads! You may laugh, or cry, or both, but this is where I spent my time growing up as a kid. I didn't know anywhere else that could possibly be more beautiful. At that time, I hadn't even been on a plane before, yet I knew how to construct plane tickets from scratch using the Qantas FFA!
When I joined the travel industry in 2008, I was making coffees at World Surfaris Kirra Surf and admiring the rather handsome surfers coming by to talk about their next Stealth Mission.
From then, my career has seen me work my way through the Backpacker Market, back into mainstream travel where my love for ocean cruising soon erupted! I've enjoyed planning large corporate groups, families for special occasions and have hosted cruises for single parent families and their children.
I am proud to say that after 10 years of living and breathing travel, I am glad I made the choice at such a young age to connect and grow within the tourism industry. I've built incredible connections with my clients/colleagues and together we continue to share the passion of travel and what the world has to offer.
I recall one of my TAFE teachers saying, that in 10 years' time travel agents will not have a job. I am glad that I can put my hand on my heart and thank her for the heads up. Now being 10 years down the track – it's safe to say we've got this!
Not only is it because people love the human element of connecting with someone, they want the freedom to be able to share their dreams, aspirations and passions with you.
There is nothing more rewarding than to have a person entrust you with their dreams that you will add your magic to make it a reality.
I believe that travel has the ability to transform you. Like me, the little girl sitting in her backyard reading a Where's Wally book daydreaming about a world so much bigger than her. I never knew that one day it would lead me here, where I get to make these fantasies into reality for my clients every day.
I have definitely made up for lost time whilst being a travel agent and have travelled quite extensively over the past 10 years. Many more years left and so many more places to tick off that never-ending bucket list of mine. A massive shout out to my clients who continuously inspire me through their amazing travel journeys and passion they have for the world.
