A Few Days in Kuala Lumpur

If you feel the need for a short break, then Kuala Lumpur might just be for you. As one of Australia's closest international destinations, you are only a few short hours away. If you are heading off to one of Malaysia's island playgrounds, Kuala Lumpur is definitely worth a stop.
Where to stay? Somewhere close to the action. Being a shoppers paradise, you don't want to have to carry your purchases too far. I have recently stayed at the Istana Hotel which is only a 5 minute walk from Pavillions, but close enough to walk to Lot 10, Sungei Wang, Berjaya Times Square to name but a few. Treat yourself and stay in a Club Room. If you haven't stayed in a Club Room, then spoil yourself. For only a little extra you get priority check in on the Club Floor where you have your own private lounge. As well as breakfast, afternoon tea. soft drinks all day we well as canapes and cocktails for a couple of hours in the evening. Well worth it.
The other great thing about staying in this area is you are only a couple of minutes walk from Jalan Alor, a foodies heaven. There are dozens and dozens of open air restaurants all with something fantastic to offer...and you probably wont made a bad choice wherever you decide to dine.
So with shopping and food ticked off the list, that just leaves sightseeing, and there is plenty to occupy a few days.
The Bird Park is a must. One of the world's largest free flying parks of it's kind. But get there earlt to avoid the heat and the crowds, particularly on weekends. From here you are not too far away from the Central Market and Chinatown. From beautiful clothing to knockoff hand bags, you will find it all. If you feel brave, you can walk through the fresh meat area in Chinatown...no maybe not a good idea. That has taken care of a day already.
The Petronas Towers are a must but you need to buy your ticket early. There are allocated times all during the day that include taking you across the coonecting sky bridge and then up to the 86th floor. The big tip here is to go at night. The towers themselves are spectacular, but a night even more so. So stroll down to the towers in the morning to get your ticket for one of the night times.
That would free up the day to head to the sacred Batu Caves, only 7km from KL, or what about the Aquarium, or a cooking class?...still plenty to do in KL.
