New Zealand has got to be my most favourite place in the whole world and cruising the South Island just reinforced it! Had a fabulous trip aboard the Queen Elizabeth, luxury and fine dining with the most spectacular view of Fiordland from our balcony and the viewing decks. Milford, Dusky and Doubtful Sounds were all just spectacular, even as the wind and rain set in towards the end of the day! We decided not to join any of the organised shore tours at the ports we stopped at (Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington and Auckland) instead we like to explore and see where we end up as it's more our style. In Dunedin we hired our own car and drove to the Albatross Colony and Disappearing Gun Fort on the Otago Peninsular then visited the Speights Brewery, found some antiques and admired the Blue Pearls and Paua shell jewellery in Akaroa (it was a little too rainy for the bush walks we were going to do), rode the funicular cable car and walked the city of Wellington (and found some great food and beer), and finished in Auckland. We loved the luxury and elegance of the Queen, as we did last time on the Queen Mary 2, but again it was an older group of travellers - this time the cohort was even older again with there being only 3 couples under 55! The Queen Mary 2 does have a few younger travellers, but if you're looking for a party crowd this isn't where you need to be ;) We did know that going in but were a little limited in our timeframe and the location and elegance fit the bill perfectly for this trip. We did prefer the QM2 as far as ships go, the layout was better and our stateroom was larger last trip. I can say we're loving the cruising holidays and this certainly won't be our last! Brooke has looked after us a few times now and we'll certainly be back for more - I'm building a very long list of where I need to go!

Brooke broke all records to get us our trip to Darwin, Alice Springs and Uluru. Due to family circumstances we did not have give a lot of notice and Brooke managed to fulfill our dreams. An extensive itinerary was provided. Departure times, pick ups and drop offs went to schedule. We had an amazing time as over 65's. The trip allowed some breathing space and all organised tours were well within our fitness range and small groups which allowed for flexibility. We flew from Sydney to Darwin for three fabulous days of free touring, picked up from hotel and taken back to airport and on to Alice Springs - short stay, should have done longer - a fascinating place. Bussed from hotel to airport and onto Uluru for three days - what an amazing place. We had an organised tour of sunrise at Uluru, dinner in the desert for sunset - that was between Uluuru and Katajuta (Olgas), then we also did a 2.5 kilometre walk through the Katajuta canyon. The canyon was a bit rocky but despite a dodgy knee we made it there and back. We also met many like minded travellers and have formed firm friendships that will carry on. Tour guides on Seit were we'll informed young people who were able to articulate the true value of these monolithic sites without reading from notes and answer our questions. Katajuta is of important significance to the Anangu so there are many untold stories even to this day. THANK YOU Brooke, whatever happens in our lives next you certainly gave us happy memories and if we get another opportunity we will certainly give you a call. Terry is thinking WA, maybe Broome..... Lots of love Christine and Terry
