What’s Trending for Travellers in 2018?

Give yourself a pat on the back peeps….Apparently, we are getting more adventurous!

Can you take your mind back to the 90's and you would be travelling in the back of the Holden to perhaps a coastal town and having the time of your life biking around the local holiday park?

Or the trip that you knew was costing your parents everything they had but you were at Disneyland or perhaps you were some of the elite that got to wear absolute fluro ski gear down the slopes of Perisha?

Either way as Australians we really are on the other side of the world when it comes to all of these incredible destinations so it’s a breath of fresh air that our current trends prove that we are stepping outside the box and wanting to experience once in a lifetime experiences.

TREND 1.

According to the Qantas stats we are ticking off that Bucket list item of spotting the big five in Africa (Elephants, Rhinos, Lions, Leopards and Buffalo) because as sad as it is we need to do it whilst we can.

There will be a shift (thank goodness) away from hands-on animal experiences. In 2018 we will see a shift towards more sustainable animal experiences and away from the hands-on animal encounters such as elephant riding and lion cub petting.

Tad Bradley from the Kusini Collection has said “I think travellers will continue to gravitate to conservation -orientated and active animal experiences like black rhino tracking in Namibia with Save the Rhino Trust, Gorilla Trekking and walking/ biking / horseback =riding safaris”

Clients want to know that their journey is part of the solution not the problem and appreciate the conservation and responsible tourism of our partners and ourselves.

TREND 2.

WELLNESS trips will become more active. This is in itself...brilliant! Because finally we as humans are looking after ourselves.

Five years ago we didn’t know what a wellness travel experience was and now we are already reinventing it!

This is my favourite of all trends as seriously who wants to be chanting and meditating for a week? The majority of us are after that wellness retreat which will teach us to ‘switch off’ ‘reflect’ and appreciate the present however we are an active era so whats wrong with a bit of adventure thrown in?!

According to Intrepid Travel Health conscience travel is on the rise and many travel companies are introducing new offerings for travellers to maintain their personal well being on the road. Bali, India and Peru are high on the list.

TREND 3.

Recent stats by Canada Government say that lone-parent families now make up 19.2% of Canadian households with children.

The travel industry is quickly catching up. Virgin Holidays launched a new price program for single parents. Intrepid Travel, which has seen a 16% growth in family bookings which means a huge increase of family tours for 2018.

These tours do not charge more for parents travelling without a spouse. Gone are the days of exclusively two-parent travel offerings – 2018 is the year for all families.

Choosing a holiday destination that will cater to different generations can be a tricky feat. Whether your children are fresh out of nappies or in the peaks of puberty so a lot of research and discussion needs to go into it for you to match everybody’s desires..

According to traveller.com.au and momondo.com the top 10 Family destinations for the family are:

1. USA, Florida, San Fransisco, NYC, Hawaii, Disney

2. Asia, Singapore, Bali, Vietnam, Japan

3. New Zealand, Queenstown has something for everybody & less than 3 hours away.

4. Europe & London, Most of the museums are free for kids; some have backpacks with activities inside. Italy and France have so much on offer from cooking classes to scenery

6. Africa & Mauritius Check out & Beyond's Phinda Mountain lodge in KwaZulu Natal. There are four lodges, plus a homestead with private staff. Game drives can be tailored for the shorter attention span of young children

10. Vietnam The chaotic street scenes, flavoursome food, and exquisite tailoring. While initially an assault on the senses, travelling to Vietnam teaches the kids important lessons about the war, religion, and poverty.

7. South Pacific Fiji, New Caledonia

8. Cruising - From Domestic 3 night Cruises to test the waters (literally) to 3 night adventures around the world Cruising has someinthing for everybody

9. Canada, The Rockies, The snow, The scenery, Whistler is a buzzing city in itself.

10. And finally our very own doorstop...Australia!!!  Domestic Travel is on the rise and why should it not we have an abundance of fun, beautiful and fabulous destinations; Top spots are the Gold Coast, Phillip Island, Sunshine Coast, Falls Creek, Uluru, Great Barrier Reef & Fraser Island just to name a few.
