Swimming with whale sharks in Ningaloo Reef, Sal Salis

Beautiful, unspoilt, beachside safari camp inside Western Australia’s Cape Range National Park.

We flew into Exmouth and picked up a car and drove the 70kms to Sal Salis where were met and shown to our tent, one of 9 rustic but spacious tents with attached private ‘eco’ bathroom, home for the next 3 nights. Kangaroos grazing in the sand dunes, woken in the morning to the sound of native birds, a few steps from the tent flap is the lagoon where large string rays cruise by in the shallows – just paradise. Meals are all served in the dinning tent, breakfast and lunch are buffets, with dinner a sit down affair with your fellow campers.

Day two, we are collected and taken to our boat the ‘Keshi-Mer’ and motor a couple of kilometres off shore, where planes are circling overhead spotting the whale sharks, the boat manoeuvres close to the very large and harmless sharks and then when given the signal we jump overboard with snorkel gear in pursuit of the sharks. We swam with six that day, large beautiful creatures, a truly amazing experience. We then returned to Sal Salis well satisfied and very tired!

Mission accomplished and never to be forgotten.
