Exploring Dubai in 48 hours

As a travel agent, there’s nothing more exciting than experiencing a destination firsthand to share with my clients. My recent stopover in Dubai for 48 hours was packed with lots including world-class hotels to thrilling desert experiences, here’s a recap of my adventures.

Jumeirah Al Qasr & Dar Al Masyaf
My adventure began at Jumeirah brand hotels which are located at the best beach in all of Dubai. As I drove through the entrance, I was greeted by majestic gold horse statues—setting the tone for the luxury within. Offering spacious villas, suites with private lounge access, and rooms that blend modern luxury with traditional Arabian design. With seven villas, ranging from 2 to 5 bedrooms, and golf buggy transport, the resorts offer ultimate comfort and convenience.

Jumeirah Al Naseem
Next, I explored Jumeirah Al Naseem, a stunning property with a more contemporary design and views of the Burj Khalifa. The hotel’s white and black marble foyer creates a sophisticated atmosphere, and its stylish interiors offer a perfect mix of contemporary luxury and Arabian heritage. This hotel is ideal for travellers looking to enjoy both modern amenities and traditional charm.

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the legendary Burj Al Arab. This all-suite hotel, perched on its own island, is known for its unique sail-shaped design and unparalleled luxury. The Burj features two-level suites, offering guests an experience of ultimate opulence. Celebrating 25 years, the Burj Al Arab continues to redefine luxury with its stunning interiors and world-class service.

Jumeirah Masa Al Arab
As the first Australian travel agent to tour Masa Al Arab, I was excited to see what this ultra-modern property had to offer. Set to open in March 25 the hotel boasts five pools, including one exclusively for adults, and every room offers sea views and a private balcony. The sleek, modern design paired with luxurious amenities makes it a must-visit for anyone looking for an exceptional Dubai experience.

Dubai Mall & Burj Khalifa – The Heart of Dubai

A visit to Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa was an absolute highlight. The Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in the world, was a shopper’s paradise. But beyond shopping, it offers a wide range of attractions, including an aquarium, an ice rink, and countless restaurants. From there, I ventured up to the Burj Khalifa at dusk, the tallest building in the world. Standing at the observation deck was an unforgettable experience, offering stunning panoramic views of the city and beyond. I had access to the Sky at level 148, as well as 124 and 125 which is the premium experience that I highly recommend.

Dubai Aladdin Tour
While Dubai is known for its futuristic skyline, it’s also rich in history. I took the Dubai Aladdin Tour, which allowed me to explore the historic Al Fahidi neighbourhood. I rode a traditional boat (abras) across the river to the vibrant Deira Spice and Gold Souks, where the sights, sounds, and scents brought the city’s cultural heritage to life. This blend of old and new is what makes Dubai so special, and I highly recommend seeing this side.

Desert Safari
The Desert Safari was one of the highlights of my trip. It started off with an exciting ATV ride across the sand dunes. Then, I hopped on a camel for a peaceful ride followed a four-wheel drive soaking in the stunning desert views as the sun set behind the dunes. The evening wrapped up with a traditional dinner at a Bedouin-style camp, where we enjoyed amazing food and live entertainment—a perfect way to end such an unforgettable adventure.

If you’re thinking of adding Dubai to your travel plans, here are 3 of my top tips to help you make the most of your trip:

1. Don’t skip the desert safari
It’s a must-do for a reason. Think dunes, camel rides, sandboarding, and dinner under the stars in a traditional Bedouin-style camp. It’s the perfect way to experience the natural beauty and heritage of the region. I always recommend doing this early in your trip—it’s an exciting way to kick things off and gives you room to relax later.

2. Plan around traffic—especially on weekends
Dubai’s traffic can really back up during the weekend, especially around popular spots like the Dubai Marina, Downtown, or the Palm. I always suggest planning transfers and outings with traffic in mind—early mornings or weekday afternoons are your best bet for smoother travel.

3. Explore Old Dubai and the souks
It’s easy to get swept up in the modern side of Dubai, but don’t miss out on its history. Take a walk through Al Fahidi Historical District, ride an abra (traditional wooden boat) across the creek, and explore the Gold and Spice Souks. It’s a totally different vibe—charming, colorful, and full of culture. It’s also a great way to see the roots of this fast-growing city.

Dubai was just as I imagined, with modern buildings everywhere. But what I enjoyed most was exploring its rich history and the beauty of the desert. The city truly offers something for everyone and continues to grow in exciting ways. After experiencing it firsthand, I’m even more thrilled to help you plan your perfect Dubai getaway!
