How to Spend 2 days in Vienna

Back in March, I had the pleasure of spending two nights in Vienna, Austria, and I’m still thinking about it. This city is such a beautiful mix of imperial history, classical music, grand palaces—and the kind of café culture that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in.
Even with just two days, I was able to get a great feel for the city and fall in love with it all over again.
Where I Stayed: A Hidden Gem in the City Center
I stayed at Hotel Topazz, a boutique hotel right in the heart of Vienna. The location couldn’t have been better steps away from shops, great restaurants, and the major sights. The hotel itself is modern and stylish, with that warm, personalized touch I always look for (and recommend!) when choosing accommodations. If you love smaller hotels with personality, this one’s a winner.
Getting Around & Exploring
Vienna’s city centre is compact and perfect for walking. I spent hours just wandering—cobblestone streets, Baroque buildings, beautiful old courtyards... it’s easy to feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
I also did a walking tour and used the hop-on hop-off bus, both of which are fantastic for seeing the highlights quickly, especially if it’s your first time in the city. They have a great public transport system so you can always hop on this if you get tired, me I like to walk!
Vienna’s Famous Café Culture
You can’t go to Vienna without visiting its legendary coffee houses. I made time for two of the most iconic spots:
Café Mozart – Right by the State Opera House. It’s cozy, traditional, and a great place to grab lunch or just linger over coffee.
Café Central – A true Viennese classic. The vaulted ceilings and old-world charm made me feel like I was inside a storybook.
Cafés in Vienna aren’t just for caffeine—they’re a whole experience, sit back, and enjoy the rhythm of the city.
Schönbrunn Palace
A popular stop on the hop on hop off bus was Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs. I did a self-guided tour, which was the perfect way to explore the lavish rooms and learn about Emperor Franz Joseph’s life.
Even if you’re short on time, this place is a must. The palace, the gardens—it’s all stunning.
A Cultural Surprise: Ballroom Season
While I didn’t attend a ball this time, Vienna’s winter ballroom season is one of the city’s most unique traditions. From November to March, over 450 balls take place in some of the most gorgeous venues imaginable. Think live orchestras, waltzing, formal gowns—it’s straight out of a fairy tale.
If you’re curious about attending one, I’d love to help you plan this one-of-a-kind experience!
My Top Tips for Vienna:
1. Spend time in a historic café – Don’t rush it. Enjoy the atmosphere and people-watch like a local.
2. Join a walking tour – A great way to uncover the stories behind the architecture.
3. Buy a Vienna City Card – Unlimited public transit + attraction discounts = total win.
Whether you’re into music, history, pastries, or palaces, Vienna has something for everyone.
If you're thinking of adding it to your next European itinerary, I’d be thrilled to help you plan the perfect getaway!
