Egypt – Land of the Pharaohs and a melting pot of senses for the mind

After two trips to Egypt the country still fascinates me. The magnitude of its ancient history and culture is immediately evident.

The most famous and visited sight of all, the Pyramids of Giza stands on the edge of the sprawling metropolis of Cairo. Convoys of buses transport thousands of eager tourists to the sight every day, and the dust and heat are no deterrent.

Alongside the Pyramids sits the Sphynx, the head of the Great Sphinx is now believed to be that of the pharaoh Khafra.

If a cruise along the Nile appeals to you, head upriver to the ancient city of Thebes, now known as Luxor. It is here you can visit the grand Temples of Karnak and Luxor and visit the Valley of the Kings, the ancient burial place of the Pharoahs.

Although, no trip to Egypt is complete without a visit to Abu Simbel. The twin temples were originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC, as a lasting monument to himself and his queen Nefertari to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. Their huge external rock relief figures have become iconic throughout Egypt.

There are many things that appeal about Egypt as it is a melting pot of senses for the mind, contact me to hear more about this fascinating country!
