The Cook Islands is So Hot right now!

I was lucky enough to visit the Cook Islands recently

After spending 10 days soaking up the magic of Rarotonga, I’m reminded why the Cook Islands are one of the South Pacific’s most underrated gems — and why they suit solo travellers, couples, and families equally well.

Where we stayed

I based myself at The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Lagoonarium, linked to the adults?only Sanctuary Resort — the perfect blend of family?friendly and peaceful escape. They also offer an adults?only private resort on Aitutaki, ideal for honeymooners or anyone craving that “pinch?me” turquoise?lagoon serenity.

Snorkelling + turtles galore

The area around The Rarotongan is, in my opinion, one of the best spots on the island for snorkelling and water sports. Crystal?clear water, vibrant coral, and turtles cruising by like they own the place.
Muri Beach is also beautiful — great for paddleboarding and lagoon time — but doesn’t have the same reef structure for snorkelling.

Other popular resort options

The Edgewater Resort was buzzing while I was there, offering a lively, social atmosphere.
Another standout is Pacific Resort Rarotonga, a boutique, award?winning property right on Muri Beach — perfect for travellers wanting a polished, full?service stay with that classic Cook Islands warmth.

Why the Cook Islands?

They use New Zealand Dollar so great for your hip pocket
