Ladies Only South Africa Surprise Tour June 2023
I co-escorted this tour along with Abe Otterman from Thompson’s for The South African Safari Company, and Surprise it was!
My first surprise was at Sydney Airport. I knew there were 8 out of our 24 ladies travelling on my Qantas flight and as an agent I felt competent in finding them. Sure enough I met up with 4 prior to departing.
Margie was my first contestant! I am no nurse, but in preparation for the trip I had just completed a First Aid Course, to be told by Margie "I am a epileptic I can have fits. It will all be OK, just let me go"! (Fortunately, this never happened, but I have better stories about this great women to follow).
My second surprise was on arrival in Johannesburg meeting my coloured guide, Abe. Abe had dreadlocks hanging over his eyes and explained to me he was a radical. Abe spoke beautiful English, slowly. Everybody warmed to Abe and he turned out to be a great friend. I was so happy to meet his family when we arrived in Cape Town, and his wife pinned up his hair! Abe told us fabulous true stories of what really happened in South Africa in earlier times, to which we are all grateful.
