My Travel Tips

Just a general guide, some may help...

  • Make sure you put labels inside your luggage and outside, 260,000 bags go missing a year
  • Never never never put your passport/travel documents/vouchers/tickets/money in your checked in luggage. Always keep in your hand/cabin luggage or on you
  • Make sure when you check in, that you know what destination you are to collect your bags from
  • Put something distinctive on your bag handle, i.e. a red ribbon, so its easier to spot on the carousels (its amazing how all black bags look the same)
  • Read up on the customs of the country you are visiting
  • Use a passport holder for around your neck, which will sit under your clothes, and against your chest and not be able to be seena money belt for around your waist which sits snugly on your tummy under your clothes
  • Make sure you pack your own bag, and use a lock.
  • Be understanding when/if Customs break the lock.
  • Check www.smartraveller.gov.au for each country you are about to visit
  • Register with the www.smartraveller.gov.au website for your travel plans
  • Leave my business card with someone who is looking after your house etc. in case they need to contact me or contact you urgently
  • Leave a copy of your itinerary with your family/friend in Australia
  • Leave your best jewellery in a safe place - it doesn’t need a holiday
  • Read your itinerary, and make a mental note (or write it on your hand) of the terminal no. you are departing from, don’t rely on taxi drivers to know the terminal no. and take you to the right one
  • Get advice from your doctor about a flu shot before you go
  • Check www.tmvc.com.au for health advice too and check out their Healthy Travel Checklist.
  • Take out travel insurance and make sure you have an insurance emergency card with you - keep one on you at all times and one in your luggage
  • Take your prescription medicines with you, with a spare copy or a letter from your doctor stating the medications, dosage etc. Talk to your doctor.
  • Keep some emergency paper money in the local currency in your shoes, under the insole
  • 3 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS – PMT = PASSPORT MONEY TICKETS
