My Secret Paradise
Have you ever experienced Western Australia?
Last September I took my husband and kids on a 4WD adventure to Broome and the Kimberley region of Western Australia. We were a little bit restricted on how much driving we actually did because my son was only 2 and wasn't that happy to sit in the car for hours! We did however discover some of the most beautiful spots that I have ever experienced in not only Australia but in the world...big call I know!
We based ourselves at beautiful Cable Beach in Broome. The first night we drove our 4WD down onto the beach with some friends to watch the sunset. Coming from the East Coast of Australia, I found the sun setting over the water the most beautiful thing. The beach was buzzing with activity, lots of 4WD's doing exactly as we were and lots of camels! Yes, Cable Beach is famous for it's sunset camel rides! I took my 5 year old daughter on a camel ride which was an experience in itself!
After spending four days exploring Broome, we drove 2 hours north along a bumpy red dirt road to discover my secret paradise - Cape Leveque, which is located on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula. I was absolutely blown away with the beauty of this place. So peaceful, so naturally beautiful and just paradise. The colours of the landscape stood out the most with the red cliffs, the green trees, the white sandy beaches and the turquoise blue water.
We stayed at " Kooljaman at Cape Leveque" which is a unique wilderness style luxury camp. Our days were spent swimming, exploring the area on foot, relaxing in the hammock in our beach hut, fishing, and of course sitting on the beach with a beverage or two enjoying the spectacular sunsets each and every day. I have never felt so totally relaxed and the kids LOVED the great outdoors.
My only concern were the crocodiles - not that we saw any! There were some signs to say that crocodiles have been seen in the area, although very rare! Needless to say that my kids were never too far from my side!
Honestly, now that I have children, I tend to go on "resort" style holidays but this time decided on a 4WD adventure, and I often say that this was the best holiday that I have ever been on.
It is difficult to explain the sheer beauty of the place until you have experienced it for yourself. Do yourself a favour and get over to Broome and don't forget to take a trip to my secret paradise Cape Leveque, you won't regret it!
