A Majestic Journey: My Unforgettable Adventure in Nepal
Hello, fellow travellers! I'm Michelle Rawlinson, an MTA Travel Agent, and I recently embarked on a journey that has forever changed my perspective on travel. I had the immense privilege of visiting the beautiful kingdom of Nepal, a land of towering peaks and vibrant cultures, and I'm eager to share this extraordinary experience with you.
Setting Off on an Incredible Adventure
In February/March 2025, I was fortunate to join a group of esteemed luxury travel advisors on a FAM trip organised by Ventours International and Journeys Representation. Our adventure began in the mystical lands of Bhutan, where we soaked in the rich heritage and spiritual ambience, before setting our sights on Nepal.
Nepal, with its dramatic landscapes and rich cultural tapestry, was both a breathtaking and humbling experience. As we arrived in Kathmandu, the capital city, I was immediately struck by the harmonious blend of ancient and modern influences. The city buzzes with life, its streets filled with vibrant markets, sacred temples, and warm-hearted people.
Reaching New Heights: Everest Experience
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the trip was a once-in-a-lifetime helicopter ride to the highest lodge in the world, Kongde Lodge, perched at 4,250 metres. As we ascended into the crisp morning air, the peaks of the Himalayas gradually revealed themselves, with the majestic silhouette of Mount Everest emerging against the azure sky. It was a moment of pure magic—one that words can scarcely capture.
With Möet champagne in hand, we indulged in a sumptuous breakfast, surrounded by panoramic views of the Himalayas. Gazing upon Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho-Oyo, I felt an overwhelming sense of awe and gratitude. The serene beauty and grandeur of the landscape were indescribable, and it was a privilege to witness such splendour.
A Tapestry of Cultural Richness
Our journey continued with explorations through Kathmandu's historic gems. At Boudhnath, I was captivated by the vibrant prayer flags and the incessant murmur of Buddhist chants. The imposing structure, a beacon of spirituality, enveloped us in its sacred ambience. Meanwhile, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pashupatinath offered insights into the deep-rooted Hindu traditions, as we witnessed the mesmerising Aarti ceremony by the Bagmati River.
Beyond the spiritual heart of Kathmandu, we ventured to Pokhara—a tranquil haven nestled amidst soaring peaks. As we sailed across the serene Lake Phewa, reflections of the snow-capped Annapurna range mirrored on the water's surface created a spectacle of surreal beauty. Our stay at the Tiger Mountain Lodge was an opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature's embrace while trekking through lush trails and exchanging stories with locals.
Embracing the Wild: A Jungle Expedition
From the heights of the Himalayas, we transitioned to the vibrant jungles of Chitwan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, the boundless beauty of nature unfolded before our eyes. Our stay at the Sanctuary Nepal Lodge brought us face-to-face with the earth's wild majesty. Partaking in wildlife safaris, we encountered the elusive Bengal tiger and the one-horned rhino, all while enjoying the cultural vibrancy of the local Tharu community.
Rejuvenation and Reflection at Dwarika’s
As our journey wound down, we found solace and rejuvenation at Dwarika's Resort & Spa. Nestled in nature's lap, this luxurious retreat provided a holistic sanctuary that nurtured the soul. I revelled in wellness practices infused with Vedic and Buddhist wisdom, from relaxing massages and sound healing to invigorating yoga sessions. This serene environment allowed me to reflect on the incredible journey I had undertaken, filled with gratitude for the experiences and connections forged along the way.
