Places I have been

I’ve been everywhere, man…is a claim I would love to be able to make, but sadly, can not – yet. I have been incredibly lucky to have visited a lot of different countries on 6 continents (Antarctica is still missing, although I have it in my sights), however my wish list of new destinations keeps growing. How does that work?

Many people ask me what countries I have covered in my travels and which ones are my favourites, though that is like asking a parent which child is their favourite. I have enjoyed every destination, each for its own reasons.

I will always be drawn back to Germany and England, because I spent time living there and feel at home in both of those countries.

Egypt is near the top of my list, because I have always been fascinated with their ancient culture and to finally be standing in front of the pyramids at Giza was an absolutely unforgettable moment.

India is memorable for its culture-shock inducing crowds, but also, it’s colour, taste-bud tingling food, stunning architecture and breath-taking scenery.

Peru and Ecuador surprised me with the slower pace of life anywhere outside of the major cities – the people seem to work on the principle that things will get done when they need to get done by, but it does not matter a bit that you spend time sitting and waiting when you have the mighty Andes as your view.

New York is truly the ‘City that never sleeps’ and I am fairly sure that I didn’t get much sleep while I was there either. I was trying to fit so much into my short stay, but I could go back another 100 times and still never capture all that there is to see and do.

And our own country is so vast, that I feel like I have seen a lot of Australia, but at the same time, extraordinarily little of it. I have been to every state, except WA for now, although I have only scratched the surface of each.

Needless to say, that if time and money were limitless that I would spend all my life travelling and investigating, visiting other countries and exploring other cultures – then wouldn’t we all?

For now, while we are travel dreaming, I will be reminiscing on past journeys in more depth in some future posts, so let me know if there is a particular destination you would like to hear about….
