Where the jungle meets the sea
Our family took a trip to Thailand and stayed in Khao Lak. After flying into Phuket airport, we had a transfer take us to our resort - Centara Resort, Khao Lak - which took around 90mins. Our resort was huge and in a perfect location, situated between the main street and the beach. The resort had many pools, restaurants and different room types to suit every traveller (including large families such as ours). We had 8 nights here, but could have stayed longer, it was very relaxing and loved that it was a little more remote yet still had plenty of shops, restaurants and activities to choose from. We ate out a couple of nights and also ate at the hotel restaurant by the beach. Most nights they would have a theme and/or entertainment to go with your meal. We spent time at the beach, local markets, shops and a mini golf course.
Two highlights of our holiday were day trips out in the 'jungle' and out at 'sea'. We (all 11 of us ranging in ages from 6-72) went zip lining! There were a few that were VERY nervous, and no this didn't include the youngest or oldest member of our family! The zip lines were high up in the tree tops, and there were a lot and varied in styles, including travelling over in a 'bike' or landing in a net to climb up. After this, we then had a lovely lunch by some nearby waterfalls which was followed by bamboo rafting down a river. This was very calm and relaxing and great to take in some wildlife such as frogs, birds and snakes. We all had a fantastic day and I would recommend this to anyone heading this way.
Our second highlight was a day out at sea snorkelling. Although we had originally planned to go on a bigger boat with other passengers, we ended up on a long tail boat with a guide and just our group. The snorkelling was fantastic, and with all the equipment including life jackets provided, all of us could enjoy this amazing day. We stopped for lunch on a sand island, only visible when the tide is out, it was our own private island for the time we had lunch.
