The Best of Bali

Bali is a favourite destination for many people around the world and its easy to see why!  From its picturesque beaches, terraced rice fields, magical sunsets and the vast array of restaurants and beach bars, there is so much to see and experience on this island paradise.

Going to Bali feels like going on a never-ending adventure, there is an activity to suit everyone! Experience surfing, yoga, meditation, quad bike riding, white water rafting, delicious food or amazing nightlife.  Certain areas of Bali have been influenced by tourism, with streets of cute cafes, hip bars and funky restaurants.  Other areas are still quite remote, maintaining their uniquely Balinese beauty.

The best time to visit Bali is during the island’s dry season. From May to October, you won’t have to worry about rain ruining any outdoor activities.

There is so much to do in Bali, get off the beaten track and venture to the north of the island. You’ll find fewer crowds, remote temples and plenty of beautiful waterfalls to explore!  A visit to Ubud is a must! Amongst rainforest and terraced rice paddies, Ubud is known for its forest home to hundreds of monkeys but be careful! Some of the monkeys can be super aggressive towards tourists – especially if you make eye contact and don’t have any food.

For tours around the island, hire a local driver and split the cost with your friends or other travellers to save money. You can hire a driver for less than 300,000 IDR ($30AUD) for the day and visit sites like the temples, waterfalls and coffee plantations.

Accommodation in Bali is plentiful whether it be a villa, resort, or hostel there is a range of accommodation for every budget.

Bali’s cuisine alone makes it worth the visit. Mouth-watering traditional dishes like nasi goreng (fried rice), Mie goreng (noodles) and satays are a must-try for traveling foodies. The best place to get authentic Balinese food is at the local restaurants which are called Warungs. The island is full of beautiful little cafes that serve up delicious and healthy food as well as the funky beachfront bars like La Plancha that serve meals all day long!

One of my favourite things about Bali are the affordable spa services. You can get a one-hour aromatherapy massage for as little as 80,000 IDR ($8 AUD). Most of the massage shops offer cold water and cold towel to make you comfortable upon arrival and most importantly offer free Wi-Fi!! I use that quiet time to check emails and Facebook.  If you ever feel like splurging, try a spa at one of the many luxury hotels.

Bali is an easy and safe destination to travel around. Whether you’re going for a week or a month, there’s more than enough to see and do to keep you busy!
