A True Fijian Experience
I have just returned from an amazing week in Fiji, where I spent a few days at Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort on Vanua Levu, in Savusavu.
Having been to Fiji 6 times previously, but only ever having been to Viti Levu and the islands, I was really looking forward to heading North, having heard lots of great things about the area and a chance to see some more of the real Fijian lifestyle and culture.
Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is located approx 30 mins from Savusavu airport, past the small township of Savusavu, located on an old coconut plantation. Known as the "Soft Coral Capital of the World", the diving and snorkelling is fantastic and the resort is close to some of the best diving locations in the world.
The resort itself, is eco-friendly, saying that does not go without the luxuries of a 5 star property - rooms are spacious, and have a very traditional Fijian feel, bure style, amenities are Pure Fiji (so nice!!!) and the food is amazing, along with great staff, that know you by name and nothing is too much trouble!!
Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is an all inclusive resort, and is family friendly, whilst understanding that couples and adults may want their own space, offering a fantastic Kids Club and Nanny Service included in the room rates.
Definite activities you should do whilst at Jean-Michel Cousteau are:
Diving/snorkelling
Trip out to the private island
Eco-tour of the resort, and Medicine Walk - amazing to see how the locals and the resort have intergrated and work together
Farmers Market and Village Trip
Most of the activities are all included in your package, except for diving (unless specified in the package), which can be paid locally.
If you are after a true Fijian Experience, lucury escape - as a couple or family - Jean-Michel Cousteau is the place to go. I know I will be heading back soon with my family, to enjoy the feeling of a home away from home!
