Voyages to Antiquity

Four of the most common questions I have been asked of late are:

a)     What is the best small ship currently cruising our oceans

b)     What ship will offer lecture programmes that give a better understanding of the places visited

c)     Are there any ships that don’t charge 100% solo traveller supplements?

d)     What ships go to Cuba?

Well here’s one that covers all of the above

Voyages to Antiquity’s – This ‘one ship’ company’s philosophy is...

….to create a cruise experience which is designed for travellers who want to understand more about the history, culture and natural wonders of the ancient world.

Their ship, the Aegean Odyssey, accommodates 380 passengers (with 180 crew). Because of its size it can reach cities that the larger ships cannot. For instance the ship cruises up the Gironde River which means you dock in the heart of Bordeaux. It does the same in Spain, entering the Guadalquivir River into the centre of Seville.

On every cruise you will be accompanied by carefully selected guest speakers (historians, musicologists, art curators, archaeologists and celebrated professors) who are happy to share their knowledge of ancient civilisations and cultures, artists and composers.

The inclusions are significant so you won’t find yourself with a big bill at the end of your cruise (e.g. a substantial number of shore excursions; wine, beer, soft drinks with dinner; bottled water on all shore excursions; gratuities and some land stays). Their guides for all shore excursions have been carefully selected for their local knowledge plus every passenger has their own Quietvox device which enables you to hear your guide even in the busiest places.

The pace is relaxed with many overnight stops in ports; in fact on some of the Mediterranean itineraries you will find the time spent on shore almost equals the time spent on board. Another added bonus is a relaxed and informal dress code which cuts down on the amount of clothing you need to pack or .. from another angle… leaves more room in the suitcase for shopping.

Finally consideration has been given to those who travel alone. Supplements for solo travellers can be as low as 15% and sometimes even zero! The ship offers 26 single cabins all with a European sized bed and ample storage space. Dining is open seating so this offers an opportunity to get to know new fellow travellers each evening.

Yes they visit Cuba… it is a long link but it should get you there.

Voyages to Antiquity is definitely worth considering for your next cruise. As their website says they offer ‘Small Ship cruising at its best!”
