Maldives offers free vaccinations

The Maldives Tourism board said it will offer tourists COVID-19 vaccinations on arrival once the countries residents have received their shots. The new tourism campaign has been named 3V which stands for “visit, vaccinate and vacation”. The idea is to promote the Maldives as a safe place to visit and encourage tourist to come.

The Maldives did not close its borders to visitors during the pandemic with many people opting for longer stays, combining leisure with business.

According to records, the Maldives has currently vaccinated around 30 per cent of its population, which is way ahead of Australia.

Currently there is no timeline for the Maldives COVID ‘vaccination on arrival’ plan to begin. Nearly all their frontline workers are already vaccinated and at least half of the population has received the first shot. The vaccines have been imported from China and India. Their supply will cover all the resident population and the remaining will be passed on to the tourists.

Pre COVID, in 2019, just under 2 million tourists visited the Maldives.

Currently to enter the Maldives you must have proof of a negative PCR test for COVID-19 which has to be processed within 96 hours of travel. Fully vaccinated guests who have received their second dose of a Covid jab at least 14 days before travel, do not need to show proof of a PCR test.

So now all we need is for our Government to open our borders!
