Achill - Dooagh Ireland

Ireland has been a long held dream of mine, which I was finally able to visit in June of 2016. This was slotted in after sharing a river cruise and a short time in Amsterdam with a friend.

After our arrival in Dublin, seeing the sights and meeting locals, who suggested we walk one of the most scenic walks from a town called Bray – over the cliffs to Greystoke - a 7km walk in all. My friend then needed to fly back home to family and work. I departed on the local train to Ballymote in the west (near Sligo) to meet with friends and explore.

I was fortunate enough to have in Sandy the best personal guide to his beloved area. I saw much of the “real Ireland” that is off the beaten track, and stopping off to visit with his friends in remote areas - who accorded the most amazing hospitality be it a lunch with a hot cup of tea to tea and biscuits in a farmhouse in Clonbur-Gowlan in the mountains.

Stopping off and exploring some of the remote areas and enjoying meals cooked on the stove in the van and just enjoying the sights really was the highlight of my trip. The night life in the local pubs is a must with the musicians and patrons crowded into a small place and start to play the local music makes for a very late night and so much fun.

A wonderful place to visit, explore and enjoy!
