Bangkok

The Grand Palace in Bangkok is undoubtedly the city's most famous landmark. Built in 1782, for 150 years it was the home of the Thai King, the Royal Court and the administrative seat of government. Today the Grand Palace is still a centre of ceremony and of the monarchy, and serves as a museum and tourist attraction as well.

Intricate detail throughout the palace, such as that pictured, is very impressive and well worth the entry fee of 500 Thai baht (approx AU$20).

Note - there is a strict dress code to enter the Palace but appropriate shirts/pants can be borrowed at a booth near the entrance (deposit is required).
