My Top 10 Travel Destinations

Of course it's impossible to it narrow down a measly 10 places, but for the moment these are the ones I have on my Top 10 Must see list. I believe that life is for living. The mortgage can wait, after all when I die my superannuation will cover it.  So, I like to live my life and experience all that I can, sharing it with my family.  My kids will learn so much more from travelling the world than they ever can sitting in a school room. I am not going to see out my last days thinking "if only" or "I wish I had...". Instead I will be remembering fondly all the places I have been the things I have done. Bring it on!

1. Rio Carnaval

Now that I am a Zumba instructor, all things musical and South American are on the top of my list, and there's nothing that screams fun more than Carnaval in Rio. Ole Ole let's Samba!

2. Egypt and the Middle East

Wow, how can you pass the chance to see tI love the Middle East and going via Dubai will make me one happy lady.  With so much history, culture and diversity it has to be top of my list. I can just see myself climbing to the top of the Pyramids, then delving deep inside to view the hieroglyphics and frescoes.

3. Alaska

We've had our eyes on a cruise called "Fire and Ice" for a while now. It's about 18 days and is a repositioning cruise from the Hawaiian Islands to Alaska for the Alaskan summer season. A perfect way to see the best of both places whilst relaxing on a cruise. Fantastic.

4. Antarctica

Just because! Via Ushuaia of course, taking in every wonderful moment, every glacier, every iceberg.

5. Portugal

I can't tell you why but I have been drawn to Portugal for many years now. Perhaps in a past life I was a bar owner or ran a small vinyard in the Douro Valley. Hmmm, a lovely glass of Campolargo and a plate of bacalao. Perhaps red wine and fish don't go so well together but who cares when you are on holidays!

6. Skiing Europe

We love skiing between Austria/Italy/France and Switzerland. The culture, history, variety of terrain, food...it's all fabulous and when the kids get more proficient we would love to take them to some of our favourite places. Stopping via Portugal of course.

7. Greek Islands

On a private yacht looking for signs of mythical Atlantis which has been suggested to lie off the coast of Santorini. I can see myself diving off my yacht into clear, azure blue waters, marvelling over the contrast of the blue on white rooftops and sailing off into the sunset. Perhaps I will spare the donkey carrying me up a hill, but top of my list is finding a secluded beach to chill on.

8. Remote South Pacific Island

I've been to the main destinations of Guam, Palau, Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Noumea, Fiji...and shortly Rarotonga. What I really want is to find that hidden gem, Tuvalu, Niue or one of the islands of French Polynesia. Where you really are the only person leaving footprints on the beach, immersing yourself in the culture of the people and experiencing Island life.

9. Africa

The cradle of humanity. I just have to take my kids to experience what it's like seeing animals in their natural environment and experiencing a different perspective on life. I still have tingles remembering watching lions enjoying a meal of water buffalo that they had just taken down. The "purrs" resonated through my body and sent me into goosbumps. To visit villages and see how other people live and how happy they are with so little...that is education.

10. Bhutan and Nepal

So pure, so natural, so awe inspiring. Nature at it's best and untouched, especially Bhutan which has remained unchanged and under-developed. This is where you can really immerse yourself in the culture without all the hype and tourist traps. And of course Nepal speaks for itself.
