Vanuatu Village Tour Highlights

A Vanuatu village tour highlights traditional customs and rituals.

On a recent trip to Vanuatu these customers highlight a village tour experience and remark on how rewarding it was:

"We travelled in a minibus with the rest of the tour group to where a track entered bushland, and we were told to follow the track. A greeting by a spear wielding, face painted warrior began the tour. The presentation involved visiting five clearings. At these we learned of traps to catch crabs, fishing, and cooking methods. We were shown how local herbs were used for food and medicine. Local customs were explained. These included marriage eligibility - that the man must own four pigs, and village procedures and cannibalism from earlier years. The tour finished with drinks and the opportunity to buy locally produced tourist items. We found this tour amazing. The village people were helpful and proud of their lifestyle. Their friendliness was evident. Although familiar with their environment we thought the tour worthwhile and we believe it was worth every minute and we recommend it. We thank Sarah and Princess Cruises for this opportunity."
