Former APT vessel - MS Caledonian Sky - will operate year-round South Pacific voyages.
Captain Cook Cruises Fiji has just confirmed the acquisition of MS Caledonian Sky, the 114-passenger vessel which formed part of the APT expedition cruise fleet.
The purchase was announced in Nadi this evening by Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Aviation, during the opening of this year's Fiji Tourism Expo (FTE).
"I'm pleased to share that Captain Cook Cruises is announcing the arrival of luxury expedition cruising in the form of the 114-passenger MS Caledonian Sky. This heralds the dawn of a new era of high-end cruise experiences never before seen in Fiji," Gavoka said.
He said Captain Cook Cruises would develop remote itineraries, taking guests to some of the most far-flung parts of Fiji, as well as Tonga and Samoa.
MS Caledonian Sky was formerly co-owned by APT's parent company, Australian Pacific Holdings, and British cruise line Noble Caledonia, with the Australian company acquiring 100% of the vessel during the pandemic to keep it operational while the entry of foreign ships was banned.
Captain Cook Cruises Fiji Executive Chairman, Alison Haworth-West, said she was thrilled at the announcement, saying "what sets us apart in this region is our heritage".
