Favourite airport hotel

#1 Crown Plaza, Changi Airport, Singapore.

My ‘go-to’ when travelling via Singapore. Conveniently located outside Immigration at Terminal 3, you must clear Customs before you can check into the hotel. Access is easy – walk; take the sky train or the link bridge from your terminal. The downtown area is easily accessible – it is only a 30minute taxi ride away. I don’t recommend taking the MRT – I’ve tried it; it was crowded and seemed to take forever. Rooms are large and spacious. Early check-in and late check-out are available on request. Normal check-in is 3pm; check out noon. The hotel has a business centre which is open 24hrs a day. It also has an outdoor pool open from 7am to 10pm. The hotel restaurant, Azur, offers all-day dining. I thought the food was very good and the service fast. There is a fitness centre, laundry service and in-room dining.

Orxy Airport Hotel

I’ve just passed through Doha. Generally, I make my way into the city centre but this time I tried two new hotels.

1.Oryx Airport Hotel – not to be confused with Oryx Garden Hotel.

Once you know the location … at the convergence of A, B and C/D/E, it’s a piece of cake to get there but if you have no idea where it is, everyone will direct you to the Oryx Garden Hotel – or at least that was my experience.

Look for the giant teddy bear, then the Hermes shop on the right; walk to the left-hand side and go up to the 3rd floor. It’s perfect if you want to break your journey to Europe. The staff were very friendly and welcoming; room comfortable, clean and quiet.

2.Sharq Village, Doha. On the return journey, I decided to try a hotel just a short drive from the airport. The Ritz Carlton / Sharq Village. I’ve booked a lot of people there but have never stayed. All that changes now. I will definitely return. It is a beautiful complex; a series of large villas each containing 10-15 rooms. It feels genuine, local; an oasis within the busy world outside. Service was excellent from the porters up to the restaurant staff and front office personnel. Everyone made me feel like I was their only guest.

Next time I plan to try the Dubai International Airport Hotel. I usually stay in the Sheraton on Dubai Creek. Conveniently located close to the airport and a short drive to Dubai Mall. I can recommend this one too.
