Voyages Sails in the Desert

What a wonderful experience!

We spent 3 nights at Voyages Sails in the Desert and had a fantastic adventure. We stayed in a superior room which had a beautiful view of Uluru from our balcony. I recommend requesting a rock view at time of booking. The rooms were spacious and modern. The bathroom was not as modern as the room however was still clean and of good standard. The buffet breakfast was delicious and offered a range of meals from traditional cooked breakfasts, freshly made pancakes and eggs to breads, cereals, yogurt, muesli, juices and even a sushi bar. The chef was able to look after our dietary needs by cooking us a special meal. There was also a pool and casual dining menu that was available most times of the day and a popular buffet for dinner. I didn't eat at the buffet due to being vegetarian, however it was very popular so I'd recommend pre-booking. The pool was large and looked refreshing (the weather was just a few degrees too cold for a swim however there were plenty of people still enjoying a dip).

Ayers Rock Resort is comprised of a number of properties (Sails in the Desert, Emu Walk apartments, Desert Gardens, The Outback Pioneer and The Campgrounds. If you are staying at any one of these hotels, you are permitted to use the facilities of any of the Ayers Rock Resort properties. Each resort has a number of dining options and there are also two options in the Town Centre Ayers Wok takeaway and Geckos Restaurant. There is also a sandwich / coffee shop.

The resort offers daily free activities at different locations from Cultural talks, to movies under the stars, nature walks, boomerang throwing and children's activities. There is a free shuttle that operates between each resort or you can walk around the resort loop in about 30-45 minutes. I wouldn't recommend walking this in the hotter months, take the bus instead. There is a lookout located at the centre of the resort which is a beautiful spot to take in the amazing views of Uluru at sunset, sunrise or anytime really! Take some cheese and wine and enjoy a bit of time up there. The lookout is a 5-10 minute walk from any of the resorts.

Having visited this area 3 times now, at all different times of the year, I would recommend visiting in the cooler months - ideally April / May. The weather has just been perfect - a beautiful 23-28 degrees each day. Don't forget a warm jacket and trousers for those sunrise and sunset viewings!
