Norwegian Cruise Line - NCL Jewel Launch in Sydney

Last weekend we were invited on board Norwegian Cruise Line’s first ship in Australia, Norwegian Jewel.

NCL is the oldest cruise company, first sailing in 1966. Jewel can accommodate up to 2376 guests and up to 1069 crew members. It was last refurbished in 2004 and is set for another refurbishment in 2018. There are 15 bars and nightclubs and 16 restaurants on board. We were lucky enough to sample some of the delectable delights in a number of the restaurants, as well as enjoy a 3 course meal at Cagney’s Steakhouse (that catered very well for vegetarians and vegans).

Jewel offers a range of accommodations from Single Studios, through to Mini Suites and Balcony Rooms, and my favourite The Haven Suites. The Haven Suites are located at the top of the ship and include exclusive access to private ‘Haven’ venues including a lounge, restaurant, courtyard and sundeck. You receive priority boarding and disembarkation as well as a 24 hour trained butler service. If you are staying in the Garden Villa you also receive a complimentary limousine service from pier to the airport. The 3 Bedroom Garden Villa is by far my favourite with its private jacuzzi and sundeck. You even have your own Grand Piano in the lounge room, not to mention the 3 large sized bedrooms and bathrooms.

The entertainment on board is fantastic and the pool area and waterslide are sure to keep many occupied. NCL Jewel is built with families in mind, so kids are very well catered for in their ‘Splash Academy’ and ‘Entourage Teens Club’. There is even a kids area with its own kid-friendly buffet and mini tables and chairs in the buffet area. And of course there are also babysitting services available on board.

Overall, I would recommend NCL Jewel to anyone wishing to have a fun-filled getaway from singles to couples and families. There are options to cater for all budgets and preferences.
