Mykonos v Santorini

Its well known that the Greek Islands are a travel hotspot with all kinds of travellers.

One of the questions most commonly asked it which island do i choose Mykonos or Santorini.

Ideally I would say BOTH! Each Islands unique charm and attractions is what draws tourists by the bucket loads in the summer months. The most popular way to travel the Greek Islands is by high speed ferry from Athens. Here you can hop between islands. Cruising the Greek Islands is another way to experience more than 1 island and with the major cruise lines cruisng the Med what a great way to experience the islands.

Mykonos is more known for its wild party life and beach clubs. Mykonos is also a popular gay destination. The sweet little cobblestone laneways in downtown are truly a sight to see. Nestled in these laneways is an array of cocktail bars, boutique shops, restaurants and souvenir stores. Spend the afternoon getting lost in these laneways and experience the true Greek Island whitewash houses. Hire a Quad bike for the day and drive around the island. Hires usually start from 50 euros per day! Stop at some of the beautiful beaches that turn into wild nightclubs that host world famous DJ's at night.

All the beaches offer umbrellas and charis for the day. 15 Euros + per day.

Take a walk up to the famous windmills at the top of the Hill only a short 5 min walk from the port.

Mykonos typically attracts a younger market being popular with beach clubs and DJ's.

Santorini is a beautiful island set up in the Caldera a mix of white wash houses and cliffface.

Here is the place to come for a unique hotel on a cliffside overlooking the Agean Sea. Santorini quite proudly boasts some of the best sunsets I have seen!
Fira is the main town on the island. Cobblestone streets are filled with family owned restaurants, little boutique stores, local Gyros & art galleries.

Take a drive about 15 mins to the top of the island to the town of Oia. This is the picture perfect postcard shot of the blue roof white wash buildings.
Sunsets here are extremely popular. If you are wanting to see the sunset be sure to get in early and huge crowds flock!

Red sand beach is a quirky place to visit. A short 10 min walk from the carpark brings you to a small beach with red sand. Here you can also hire beach chairs and enjoy beautiful clear waters!

As you can see BOTH islands are AMAZING! but hopefully this blog will give you enough info on each to decide...or choose BOTH!
