Oak Alley Plantation

Oak Alley Plantation is the Southern Belle of Plantation homes.
An iconic plantation home about 1 hours drive from New Orleans in the community of Vacherie.

It has those beautiful Oak trees lining the entrance. Featured in a lot of movies this place is a real treasure and a must see when visiting New Orleans. Built in the 1700's Settlers planted 28 evenly spaces Oak trees leading from the mansion to the Mississippi river. From 1839 the Jacques family were at Oak Alley. It is known as the Grande Dame of the great Mississippi River.

Oak Alley invites visitors to explore all facets of her plantation past.  The Slavery at Oak Alley exhibit, Civil War exhibit, Sugarcane Theater and Big House offer an experience as compelling as the plantation’s 25 historic acres and 300 year old allee of oaks.

There are 5 plantation homes on the River Rd. There are tours that operate every ½ hour and take you inside the mansion.
There also the slaves quarters still on the property.

There is a cafe and a gift store on the property which is open from 8:30am to 3:00 and serves breakfast and lunch.
The plantation is open daily from 9am - 5pm.
Parking is available and free. Tickets are $25 per person.
Tours of the mansion are available and led by volunteer guides who are very passionate about the history and the plantation.
You can also have your own plantation experience and stay overnight on the grounds in one of the cottages.
If you have a love of Plantation homes then Oak Alley is the one to visit.
