India!
This was not my first experience of India - BUT this was a journey that will stay with me.
First stop Delhi and the Imperial Hotel. This is a hotel of character, built in the 1930's - beautiful artwork, tradition and impeccable service. Hard to believe that Delhi's population of 33 million is more than the entire population of Australia but the organised chaos works perfectly. The incredible spice markets and then to find the beautiful Haveli Dharampura in the midst for an incredible lunch - beautifully appointed rooms - a peaceful refuge in the Old Quarter. I had not travelled by rail before in India and experienced premium economy service from Delhi to Khajuraho.
My favourite was about to happen - The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace - breathtakingly beautiful. Recently opened in 2025 after the palaces restoration. Again, faultless. To return to your room each evening with marigolds spelling out "Good Night" on the doorstep and "hopefully see you again soon" on departure - amazing.
Of course no trip to India can be without visiting the Taj Mahal. This was my 3rd visit and the emotions were as strong as the first viewing.
Amritsar - a first and a favourite now. Very close to the Pakistan border, the Sikh community was so welcoming and the Golden Temple breathtaking. The Free Kitchen, where volunteers prepare 80,000 meals daily for the poor , regardless of faith or background . This was a very humbling experience and the people shared smiles and photos with our group - a real sense of belonging.
The Hampi - a UNESCO site - very quiet after the chaos of Delhi, serenity of the Taj and the quiet spirituality of Amritsa. Then Ananda in the Himalayas...
We started with an Ayuedic consultation and personalised menu and spa programme. Cannot recommend highly enough. The absolute beauty of the location, the grounds, staff and programmes first class on every level.
