Christmas In Germany

In December 2011, my family and I flew to Europe to enjoy Christmas in the Black Forest, Germany.

We spent 6 nights in the village of Hornberg with a population of 5000 people. Our Hotel Schloss Hornberg, a stately home situated above the valley in the heart of the Black Forest, was our base for all of our included excursions.

Highlights were the Christmas Markets where we tasted mulled wine and Gingerbread, medieval towns of Heidelberg and Freiberg, Hohenzollern Castle, beautiful LakeĀ  Titisee where it was snowing, Triberg the capital of the Black Forest and crossing the Rhine into France visiting Colmar and Strasbourg.

We enjoyed four and five course meals for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with huge servings of duck, goose, trout and all the trimmings.

On our final night we were entertained at a Medieval Banquet in the cellar of our hotel. No visit to the Black Forest would be complete without a piece of home made Black Forest Cake.
