Vietnam Through My Eyes: A Journey of Sights, Sounds and Soul-Stirring Moments
It’s been almost a year since I explored Vietnam on an unforgettable small-group trip — and yet I can still hear the buzzing of Hanoi’s motorbikes, feel the peaceful sway of a sampan gliding through Tam Coc, and taste that perfectly spiced bowl of pho.
We began in Hanoi, where the organised chaos of traffic somehow works in a way only the Vietnamese can master. After arriving, we kicked things off with sunset cocktails at a rooftop bar, watching the light fade over this fascinating city before sharing our first dinner at a local favourite — always the best way to connect with a new destination.
The next morning, we hopped on the back of Vespas for a wild and wonderful city tour. There’s no better way to immerse yourself in the real Hanoi — weaving through laneways, seeing daily life unfold before you. From there, we headed to Ninh Binh, a region as dramatic as it is peaceful. Think limestone karsts, lush rice paddies, and a gentle boat ride through Tam Coc that felt like gliding through a painting.
A definite highlight (and a bit of a throwback to my backpacking days!) was the overnight train to Hue. Four to a cabin, plenty of giggles, and a few cheeky drinks as the train rocked us to sleep — one of those experiences that bonds a group together.
Hue offered a slower rhythm — and the most beautiful scooter tour through temples, backstreets, and incense villages, finishing with a vegetarian lunch prepared by Buddhist nuns. It was both nourishing and humbling.
From there, it was off to Hoi An, one of my favourite places in Vietnam. A jeep tour through coconut groves and fishing villages showed us a different side to the region, and of course, there was time for shopping, sunset drinks and beachside bliss. Our final days were all about soaking it all in — exploring, relaxing, and celebrating the kind of travel moments that stay with you.
This trip reminded me why I love Vietnam so much — the people, the food, the culture, the scenery — and how travelling in a small group can make every experience feel more personal, more meaningful, and more fun.
If Vietnam is calling your name (or even whispering gently!), I’d love to help you discover it for yourself — whether you’re travelling solo, with friends, or part of a fun ladies' group like this one.
