King Island
My first move off mainland Tasmania (at 23) was to the stunning, windswept King Island. In the middle of Bass Strait, nothing stands in the path of the roaring forties between here and South Africa! This was truly my second island love. The locals are so welcoming, the scenery is rugged, tough and beautiful! It's world famous for it's beef and dairy products, but did you know it's one of the biggest harvesters of bull kelp in the world? If you've ever had a beer or an icecream...there's a fair chance the foam stabiliser used originated in the waters off King island. Also, it's a golfers paradise with 2 world famous courses!
