Bangkok for Beginners

Just had the pleasure of staying in The Peninsula for 2 nights, on my very first trip to Bangkok. Despite the fact that Marshall Law was imposed only a few days after my visit I felt completely safe and was kept well informed at all times of the political situation by both the hotel and Trails of Indochina. The hotel itself is superb, a real throwback to another time, with classic colonial features and timeles elegance. The pool area and restaurants are all gorgeous, and the easy access to the river means that everywhere you need to go is so easy. The half day city tour with Tarils of Indochina was fascinating, and took in the river houses, The Grand Palace and Wat Arun. A simple boat ride away is the latest shopping option "Asiatique". Forget the traffic and do everything you need by boat! A wonderful first time to this intriguing city.
